March 11, 2010 - Why do you hug all the time? (Post a Comment)
That's what my eight-year-old daughter asked my husband and me last night while we were all in the kitchen after dinner. It was a good moment. My husband and I aren't the most affectionate people in the world, so it made us smile to know that our children notice that we actually like each other!
Unfortunately, there are moments when we're not hugging, if you get what I mean. For those times of conflict, we work hard to set a positive example. One way to do that – especially in front of the kids – is to work it out on paper so your argument doesn't escalate out of control. There's a concept based on the word REST that breaks down resolving conflict into 4 simple steps – really! And we've even made it simpler with this REST worksheet. It's a practical and "husband-friendly" way of successfully dealing with heated topics.
